LINCOLNSHIRE
|
|
Lincolnshire spreads from the flat shores of the North Sea westward
to the Midlands and north to Yorkshire. Although it is in many places flat, there
are the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds and the central chalk ridge on which the
beautiful County town of Lincoln is situated. Almost all of the County is rural, and there is an air of
isolation and loneliness with the wide skies seen in many parts of Holland –
in fact Holland is the name given to one of the three administrative
divisions into which Lincolnshire was divided until 1975, the other two being
Lindsey and Kesteven. These fulfilled
a similar purpose to the three Yorkshire Ridings. |
