OXFORDSHIRE

Properly
speaking, Oxfordshire is confined to the northern bank of the River Thames,
from Henley in the East through the major city of Oxford and away westward among
the quiet water-meadows to the Gloucestershire border. The other side of the river is the Royal
County of Berkshire, even though some of its residents have to pay Council
Tax to Oxfordshire these days. But
the Thames is by no means the County’s only river – the Windrush, the
Evenlode, the Dorn, the Ray and the Cherwell all feed the Father from the
northern side, and beautiful, clear, and unpolluted streams they are. |
