Now
that the hated keg ‘county’ of Avon has gone forever, Somerset can
concentrate on being itself rather than being a sort of suburb of Bristol!
It is most definitely a County for the tourist, with places of interest
everywhere. In the north, there’s the
Roman City of Bath – the Roman Baths have been restored and can be visited. Along the coast, there are the seaside
resorts of Weston super Mare and Minehead, while inland there are the towns
of Taunton, Yeovil and Frome which are developing their own industry as well
as being important agricultural centres.
Walkers will enjoy the Brendon and Mendip Hills, while Cheddar Gorge
and Wookey Hole are among England’s most popular attractions.
