Sussex includes the areas at present administered by
East and West Sussex County Councils, (except for Gatwick), and the towns of
Brighton and Hove.
The County is very varied with the busy seaside towns stretching in an almost
unbroken chain from Bognor Regis to Hastings, hilly chalk downland further
north with excellent walking, and pleasant small towns inland such as
Petworth, Lewes, Arundel and Battle.
On the Surrey borders you will find the large new town of Crawley, but
not far from it is Worth Forest, one of the last areas of primeval woodland
in England. Sports associated with
the County include sailing, where Chichester Harbour is ever popular, and
polo, played at Cowdray Park near Midhurst.
