WARWICKSHIRE

Warwickshire
includes the huge city of Birmingham at its northwest corner as well as
another very large city – Coventry – and towns such as Leamington Spa, Nuneaton
and Rugby. The County Town is the
rather smaller City of Warwick. In
the south of the County is Stratford on Avon, a magnet for every American
tourist who visits this land. But between all these towns there’s still room
for a lot of countryside. And
whereabouts is the border with Borsetshire – perhaps we could get Ruth
Archer, or even Mrs. Snell, as Organiser for there! |

Girls’ Chess in Warwickshire ECGCF
would be very glad to hear from anyone who feels capable of organising a
girls’ chess team for this County.
You will need a team of six U14 girls, (this can include girls from
much younger age groups) who need NOT be strong players. The prospect of selection for their County
often acts as a stimulant and incentive to concentrate on improving their
strength. If
you are a person who could fulfil this very valuable task, please get into
touch with ECGCF by telephoning 0202 8660 8564 or 0202 8405 9308, or by email
to sgclec.gcf@aol.com We
will be able to provide you with a list of schools within your County where
chess is already an established activity.
From there on - it’s up to you! It
seems a great pity that the County which produced the Howard sisters as well
as the strong players Sophie Tidman and Sabrina Chevannes should not have a
team competing in the ECGCF. What is needed here is not so much players,
as a competent and enthusiastic Organiser! |
