This FIDE-rated event played over two weekends had several girls participating. Katie A Martin,
a U14 who is an enthusiastic member of 3Cs Chess Club, for whom she plays 4NCL chess, and who
recently played Board 1 for Lancashire Girls in the ECGCF Northern Region event, did very well
indeed in this very tough company: she finished with 4½/9 and a FIDE part-rating. Anna Partington,
in her last year as a Junior, also scored 4½, while U14s Poppy Aarons [Middlesex] and Sarah
Hegarty [Surrey] also did well with 3½ points each.
Jessie Gilbert of Surrey was the other girl who played but was unwell over the first weekend
and therefore unable to play. Jessie was given half-point byes for the first five rounds, and on
the second weekend went on to score 2½/4, so finishing on 5/9.
