Kingston Hundred Championship, New Malden 27 October 2002
Many many years ago, before even Mike Basman was born, most Counties (like Surrey) were divided
into areas known as Hundreds. Whenever there was a war, as there usually was in those days, (it was
before chess had been introduced into England), each Hundred had to supply 100 men to fight for the King.
Now the Hundreds have been revived, and this was the first in a series of Hundreds Championships.
The results of this event, (there were plenty of girls playing), can be seen
Here.
If there has not yet been a Hundred championship in your area, tie up your oxen, sharpen your pike,
and make sure your bow is properly strung - there's sure to be one near to you very soon.
