The 2002-2003 Grading List
This was published during August. Now that the two strong Kent girls, Heather Richards and
Rosalind Kieran, have passed out of Junior ranks, we are very pleased to see the top four places
in the Girls list occupied by Surrey girls, (1. WFM Jessie Gilbert 185; 2. Teresa Khoo 170; 3. Anna
Partington 165; 4. Alexandra 'Aly' Wilson, 152). Ranking eighth is Sarah Hegarty at 139, with
ninth Alex Kelly 138, eleventh Kate Feld 123 and thirteenth 11-year old Selina Khoo at 122.
Thus there are eight Surrey names in the top 13!
As time permits we shall reconstruct our list
of Top Girls and publish it as in former years.
Ron Banwell Masters, Coulsdon, 17-26 August 2002
This year's 10-round, FIDE rated Ron Banwell Masters was hosted at Coulsdon, and three girls took part, all from Surrey. The highest scoring girl was Sarah Hegarty with a splendid 5½/10, which gains her a part FIDE rating. Jessie Gilbert also did well with 5, and so did Alexandra 'Aly' Wilson, who scored 4 in spite of having to miss two rounds to compete in the UK Chess Challenge Terafinal.
