All-Surrey Tournament, Rosebery Grammar School 29 September 2001

Coulsdon Graded Rapidplay, 29 September 2001
In the U160 Section, Teresa Khoo [Surrey] was placed first with 5½/6. In the U120 Section, Selina Khoo scored 3/6 and Hannah Dale had 2½. Results courtesy Dr. Robert Dale.
Teresa is Player of the Year
At the 4NCL first and second rounds weekend mentioned below, our Surrey player Teresa Khoo was named as 4NCL Female Player of the Year 2000-2001, following her excellent season in which she played in every single round and returned the superb score of 8/11.
4NCL Rounds 1 and 2, 22-23 September 2001
The Four Nations Chess League for 2001-2002 kicked off with one or two team changes and a
sprinkling of new girl players - Surrey now has SIX girls involved!
There were excellent starts to the season for 'Aly' Wilson and for new player Charlotte Wilcox
[Staffordshire], each of whom had wins in both rounds. And in Round 1, the Oldham player
Katie A Martin had an excellent win over Sabrina Chevannes.

CCF Challenge Shield, 17 September 2001
Surrey Girls Chess League entered a team into this 4-round rapidplay team event. The team was 1. Jessie Gilbert, 2. Alex Kelly, 3. Louise Newlands, and 4. Chantal Sirisena. The team lost one, drew one, and won two of its four matches: every player had at least one win.
Leek Chess Congress, 14-16 September 2001
This event is divided by grade into sections of around 24. Eight girls in all took part: in the 104-126 section Suzie Blackburn [Cheshire] was joint second on 4/5; in the 78-102 section, Molly Moruzzi was equal first on 4/5, while Emma Atkins and Charlotte Wilcox were joint third on 3½ and Yanshan Yu was placed 20-23 on 1½/5; and in the 31-77 section, Heather Corbishley and Kate Smith placed 19-22 on 1½/5 with Megan Moruzzi 24th on ½/5. All these girls Staffordshire.
Surrey Girls Trial Tournament, 15 September 2001
A small Trial tournament for Surrey girls was held at Immanuel and St Andrew School in Streatham, and was won by Chantal Sirisena with a perfect 6/6 score. You can see scores of all of the players Here.
Richmond Rapidplay, 9 September 2001
In the Open section (23 players), the only girl was Heather Richards [Kent], who scored 3/6.
The Major U160 section of 25 players had three girls, all of whom finished identically
placed at 6-9 with 3½/6: they were Sarah Hegarty, Teresa Khoo, and Anna Partington [all Surrey].
The Intermediate U120 had 32 players, the only girl being Selina Khoo [Surrey], placed 8-13
scoring 3½/6.
There were 26 players including 5 girls in the Minor U80. Karla Houska [Berkshire] was best of
these placed 2-5 with 4½/6, then came Kate Richards [Middlesex] at 16-19 with 2½. Two girls,
Katie Houstoun [Surrey] and Antonia Round [Middlesex] had 2/6, with Antonia also getting a further
half point as a filler in another section. And finally Thilagini Anandajeyarajah [Surrey] got
1/6.
South London Rapidplay, 8 September 2001
The only girl playing was Hannah Dale in the U150 section, who did well, scoring 3/6.
Jessie Wins Bronze in Greece!!
With a draw in the last round of the nine-round European Junior Championship tournament,
our Surrey star Jessie Gilbert assured herself of joint third place and Bronze medal. Jessie's
final score of 6½/9 was an excellent achievement against Europe's strongest girls.

Central London Rapidplay, 1 September 2001
In the U165 Major, Teresa Khoo was placed third with 4½/6. Sarah Hegarty scored 3.
