Girls do well at Royston
Hertfordshire girls' organiser Chris Cook writes: "There was some success for girls at
the Royston Checkmates Tournament on Tuesday 29th May.
Claire Wu [Middlesex] won the Under 10 section with 5/6. Catherine Tilley [Hertfordshire] and
Rebecca Mullins [Cambridgeshire] scored 2.5, while Genevieve Mullins [Cambridgeshire] scored 1.5.
In the Under 12 section, Yvette Cook [Hertfordshire] was second scoring 5/6 ahead of Katie
Houstoun [Surrey] 3.5 and Philippa Mullins [Cambridgeshire] 3.
There was just one girl in the strong Under 18 section. Natalie Woodhouse, the Herts Under 18
top board scored 50% with 3/6.

ECGCF/Batsford National Girls Schools Championships 13 May 2001
This popular event was again held at Lady Eleanor Holles School. Some 38 teams competed and the winners of the various Sections were as follows: U18 Schools and Clubs, Cheddleton & Leek, Staffordshire; U13, Lady Eleanor Holles, Middlesex; U11 First Teams, St. Edwards, Leek, Staffordshire; U11 Reserve Teams, Bromley High II, Kent; U9 First Teams, Putney High, Surrey; U9 Reserve Teams, Norwich High II, Norfolk. London v The Rest of England, Girls U11, Streatham 7 May 2001
This annual match took place as usual at Immanuel School and this year, resulted in a win
for the Rest of England by 27-13. The match was over 20 boards and 2 rounds. There was also a
reserve match, of which the Rest were winners by 5-1.
