National Junior Squad Championships, Yateley Manor 20-22 April 2001
There were some excellent results for Surrey girls, notably Sarah Hegarty and both Khoo sisters, in this event. We have picked out the girls in their County colours in the full crosstables, which can be seen Here.
Tournament of Youth Talent, Czech Republic
This tournament was played during the Easter Holidays at a place called Frydek Mystek. Several
English girls took part. There were three sections, U14, U12 and U10, and girls and boys played
separately as is normal in European events.
Jessie Gilbert [Surrey] took the Gold Medal in the U14, and Naomi Miller [Oxfordshire]
took the Silver in the
U12. Other English girls playing included Sarah Hegarty [Surrey], Poppy Aarons [Middlesex],
Claire Morris [Oxfordshire], and Elizabeth Roberts [Cheshire]. If anyone has any more detailed or official information
about this event, please let us know.
ECGCF Eastern Region, Bedford 21 April 2001
Three Counties made it to this event, which was won by Bedfordshire with Hertfordshire second.
Thus Bedfordshire proceed to the Grand Final on 30 June at Abingdon, while Hertfordshire will play
in the Minor Final which will be held alongside. Cambridgeshire were placed third.
Sadly three
Counties who had been hoping to compete until the last minute had to withdraw - these being
Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk. But it must be remembered that these are very large and
rural Counties which have been particularly badly hit by foot and mouth restrictions: we are sure
that all three will be back next year.
Further details of this event can be seen Here.
Coulsdon Congress, 13-14 April 2001
Teresa Khoo [Surrey] had an excellent result, joint second in the U170 section with 4½/6, while sister Selina also did very well, scoring 4/6 in the U130. Both girls thus advanced their positions in the Terence Chapman Prixette, (see above).
