Blackpool Chess Conference 9-11 March 2001 - Teresa Khoo wins Sharon Furlong Trophy!
Organiser Dave Clayton, who very kindly supplied this year's results, reports
that this was the most successful Blackpool event he has been involved with - a
record 476 competitors, with a splendid atmosphere and no disputes! We have
always recommended this congress because, of all weekend events, it has the best
provision for females, with a £50 lady's prize in EVERY section, and the
splendid Sharon Furlong Trophy plus £100 for the best score by a female, in
whatever section. The Trophy holder even gets a small copy to keep
forever.
This year's Sharon Furlong was won by Teresa Khoo [Surrey]. Right
back on her best form, Teresa was placed joint first in the Major section with
4½/5. This was the third time a Surrey girl has won the Sharon Furlong, (Alex
Kelly won it in 1998 and Anna Partington did so last year).

31st Richmond Rapidplay, 4 March 2001
Some 12 girls, all but two of them from Surrey, played in this latest of
these excellent events, and with very pleasing results in many cases. Anna
Partington was joint third in the U160 Major, while the Intermediate U120 was
won by Sarah Hegarty with six straight wins. Chantal Sirisena also did well in
this section.
You can find full crosstables at the Richmond Junior Chess club
site, while we have summarised the girls' results in a table Here.
