U11, Nathalie Wong [? county], 3-5 overall. In the U12, the best girl was Susannah Prichard [Middlesex] with 3/5 but she does not seem to have been given an award. No girls as far as known in the U14/U16. You can see full crosstables for this event at the excellent Barnet Knights website, accessible through our Links page and very well worth exploring.

33rd Richmond Rapidplay, 21 January 2001
For some reason the number of girls taking part in this event was smaller than usual - perhaps
school examinations can be blamed for this.
The only girl in the 24-player Open was Heather Richards [Kent], scoring 1½ placed 22-23. There
was also only a single girl in the Major (U160), where Ivana Houska had 2 points placed 14-17 out
of a total of 18 players. In the Intermediate (U120) there were 25 players in all with two girls,
these being Naomi Miller [Oxfordshire] with 3 points placed 12-15, and Chantal Sirisena [Surrey]
with 2½ placed 16-18. Finally the Minor (U80) which had 32 plyers in all, had Karla Houska
[Berkshire] placed 9-11 with 3½ and Michaela Tracy [Surrey] placed 24-27 with 2.
Wey Valley U12 Championship and U11/U9 Selection Tournament, Leatherhead 21 January 2001
This tournament which was very popular with over 160 entrants was played in two Sections.
The U12 Section was won outright by Sarah Hegarty with a perfect 5/5, but only after a very tight
last-round game against another girl, Reyana Fayyaz. This game in fact reached a dead-drawn
position with plenty of time on both players' clocks, but in the subsequent moves Reyana missed
the correct continuation and lost.
In the U9 Section, two girls scored 4/5 placed joint third. They were Louisa Ellis and Olivia
Barber.
