Rochdale [Lancashire] Congress, 28-29 October 2000
Far from home was Anna Partington [Surrey], but she did well in the Major U160, scoring 3½/5
and picking up a grading prize.
The Novice section was won by a girl, Karen Bradley who goes to 3Cs Chess Club. Karen scored
5½/6. Her club is one of the most successful junior clubs in the world. It started off as a
club just for children, but "grew up" to the extent that a 4NCL team is fielded. 3Cs is also
very supportive of girls' chess - they even enter an all-female team in one of the leagues.

each other but this time there was a winner. The nearest boy scored 4.5
