Counties Chess Union in the opening event of the Hertfordshire Chess
Association centenary celebrations.
Yvette Cook (V) and Catherine Wasilewski (R) played for Herts and 11 year
old Rhiannon Chilton (Hampshire) played for SCCU. Catherine and Rhiannon,
playing on board 50, shared a draw in their first game with Catherine the

the reverse game.
Overall, Herts lost the first round 23.5 to 25.5 (one match totally

A New Book
Jill Barber of Manchester, who is an adult player for the British Ladies correspondence chess team, teaches chess mainly to younger girls. Jill has a book in preparation, which is specifically aimed at girl players, and she would be very pleased to hear from girls who would send her a game, or a position from one of her games, that could be used in the book. It would also help if you included a couple of lines about yourself, e.g. your age, what experience you have had, etc. Please contact Jill by email: Brian@arthog.freeserve.co.uk

New Leader in Terence Chapman Prixette
Leonard Barden writes: Surrey's Teresa Khoo, 14, won the junior Gold Medal at the Mind
Sports Olympiad 20-minute Open.
The Lady Eleanor Holles student now benefits from the Grand Prix rule which states that
competitors who include an Open in their totals have a higher possible GP maximum then when
scores are only from grading-limited or junior tournaments.
Teresa's score is boosted by a whopping 11.4 points, from 43.8/60 to 55.2/80.
Her success means that the Surrey schoolgirl trio of Khoo, Hegarty and Partington have
reoccupied the top three Prixette places ahead of the England and Scotland women internationals.
